So, I finally went for it and got a Dreamwidth account. I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing, but I'm excited to find out how this whole thing works and hopefully make some new friends and find some amazing fic to read.

A quick little introduction to me:
I'm a 20 something fanfic writer from the UK, who has fallen head over heels for the world of Harry Potter fanfic.

I've loved Harry Potter for as long as I can remember - it was a massive part of my childhood and I've lost track of how many times I've reread the books over the years. And yet somehow, I didn't discover fanfiction until last year?! I fell into fanfic via Wolfstar, and I've never looked back.

I write under the name MalenkayaCherepakha, and so far have written for a variety of ships including Harry/Draco (the majority of my fics), Harry/Ginny, and Neville/Luna/Ginny. I'm a massive multishipper, and have a long list of pairings I want to write for, including some new pairings coming soon.

I'll read basically anything - as long as it's well written, there are very few topics or pairings I won't read. Since I started writing my reading time has dropped dramatically but there's still nothing like discovering that fic that keeps me awake into the early hours of the morning because I just can't put it down.

One of my absolute favourite things about fandom has been the people I've met - everyone is so lovely and really makes this experience amazing. I'm always keen to make new friends who I can squee too about Harry Potter and the wonder that is the Wizarding World, so come say hi!

Ooh yes. Okay, off the top of my head:

If you like drabbles and drabble challenges, there's harry100, draco100 and hp_nextgen100. If you're interested in femslash at all, femslashficlets is a great multi-fandom community.

I co-mod three fests here: The Salt & Pepper Fest at hp_goldenage which is for creating fic/art for characters when they're in the 50+ age stage of life. bbtp_challenge which runs every September 1st (multi-fandom, centered on smut in case that wasn't obvious lol) and firewhiskeyfic, which we try to run 3-4 times a year, but basically we all drink and write ridiculous things for a night and then post them anon and laugh with each other at our silliness.

daily_deviant is an invite-only for writers/artists community that's in the process of moving over here from IJ. They do monthly kink themes and members create and post on assigned days, basically. But they have events for everyone to participate in a couple times a year, usually, and they are always looking for new members to recruit if that's something you're interested in!

Other fests/communities here that I follow... hp_crossgenfest and hp_nextgen_fest and hp_drizzle and hogwarts365 and rarepair_shorts but I know some of these have a tumblr presence as well so you might already know about them!

I know I'm forgetting stuff! But hopefully some of these will be up your alley! :)

I love love love older characters so the Salt and Pepper Fest has been something I've wanted to do for a while - I'll keep an eye out for sign up info. Firewhiskeyfic looks actually hilarious too.

I signed up for Daily Deviant earlier this weekend and I'm so excited to take part - I've loved reading the entries in the past.

It's not remotely user-friendly, but so it goes! I second all the communities Shelly recommended, plus Erised and (I think) fanfair have pages here too.

When people are posting, it has a nice circle of friends feel round here.

It's definitely not as intuitive as other platforms haha but I think I'm very slowly getting the hang of bits of it.

Ooh I'll have to go find Erised - I just missed sign ups this year (was on holiday and the time zones screwed me over) but I can't wait to read all the creations.

It certainly seems like it would feel more intimate?? maybe than other platforms like Tumblr, so I'm looking forward to seeing how that develops.
